Prayers in Globasa from different religions

I’ve been Jewish my whole life, but I was a spiritual seeker in my 20s and explored all sorts of different religions, whether to learn more about them or see if they offered something better. I came to learn there was no such thing as better when it came to religions: that they all offered unique things that other religions didn’t have, and they all had problems. So I ended up just following the religion of my people.

(To me, and to many Jews, “following the religion” isn’t purely about faith. I’ve recently become an agnostic after a decade of being an atheist.)

Yesterday and today, I undertook to translate prayers, hymns, and statements of faith from a bunch of different traditions into Globasa, as part of an effort to diversify the spiritual literature section of Globasa’s website. Some of them may or may not make it onto the website, though others certainly will not. I’m going to make all of them available here for that reason. This is not an endorsement of any of these religions, but it does say that I like the prayers and felt compelled to translate them.

The English translations given below each of these are not the official translations, but more literal translations back from Globasa.

Blessing of Good Health (Zoroastrianism)

Kilo mara sehaya, kilo mara sehaya!
Kilo mara sehaya, kilo mara sehaya!
Kilo mara sehaya, kilo mara sehaya!

A thousand times health, a thousand times health!
A thousand times health, a thousand times health!
A thousand times health, a thousand times health!

Shema (Judaism)

Am ore, Israel! Prabu sen imisu Teo, Prabu sen un Te!

Ji yu xa lubi Prabu, yusu Teo, fe yusu total tutum, fe yusu total ruho, ji fe yusu total kowa. Ji hin lexi hu mi nundin amiru da tas yu xa sen fe yusu tutum. Listen, Israel! The Lord is our God. The Lord is one.

And you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your power. And these words that I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them to your children, and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the street, when you lie down and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be a reminder between your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Pavamana Mantra (Hinduism)

Ex falsoya, am lide mi cel satiya,
Ex luminkalya, am lide mi cel lumin,
Ex morya, am lide mi cel morcukalya.

From falsehood, lead me to truth,
From darkness, lead me to light,
From death, lead me to immortality.

Dona nobis pacem (Catholicism)

Am gibe tas imi xanti.

Grant us peace.

Shahada (Islam)

No hay teo minus Teo. Mohamad sen mesajeyen fe Teo.

There is no god but God. Mohammed is God’s messenger.

Prayer for Knowledge (Islam)

Misu Prabu, am maxgi misu jixi.

My Lord, increase my knowledge.

Serenity Prayer (Protestantism)

Teo, am gibe tas mi daytrankwiloya
Cel na swikara xey hu mi no abil na alogi da
Yunki cel na alogi xey hu mi abil na alogi da
Ji sofi cel na kone aloya.

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Short Obligatory Prayer (Baha’i Faith)

Mi mogoki, misu Teo, ki Yu le krea mi cel na kone Yu ji na ibada Yu. Mi xahedi, fe hin momento, misu kowakalya ji Yusu daykowa, misu harekalya ji Yusu harepulya.

No hay alo teo minus Yu, Sahay fe hatari, Seduregiyen.

I witness, my God, that You have created me to know You and worship You. I testify, at this moment, to my powerlessness and Your might, to my poverty and Your wealth.

There is no other god but You, the Help in peril, the Self-Continuing.

Satanic Invocation (The Satanic Temple)

Imi am nun estay, neninamagido ji nenbindedo yon burdaylama dotrina xen of fobipul siko. Imi am weygebo xatanli pel na yam of Drevo fe Jixi ji na dissolusigi imisu dayhox ji konfortane lama delusi. Imi am xucyo ki person am behukimu kos sesu konkreto aksyon, no sesu cungiya fe sebakal sosyal norma ji ilusipul klase.

Imi am rasona imisu hala yon xinenkalya fe moy xey, hifazine sol to hu ren abil na jenmin ki da sen sahi. Imi am sen sahte anti moy sebakal awtorita hu da tehdidu soberenya fe Un Te or Moyte. To hu da xa no fleksi musi kasiru, e ren musi nilwatu bloki tosu morya hu ren abil na destrui da yon sahiya. To sen faledo. Salom Xatan!

Let us stand now, unbowed and unbound by arcane doctrines born of fearful minds. Let us embrace the Satanic impulse to eat of the Tree of Knowledge and to dissolve our blissful and comfortable old delusions. Let us demand that people be judged by their concrete actions, not their loyalty to meaningless social norms and illusory categories.

Let us reason our solutions with agnosticism in all things, keeping only that which can be proven true. Let us be firm against all arbitrary authority that threatens the sovereignty of One or All. What does not bend must break, and the demise of that which can be destroyed with truth should never be prevented. It is done. Hail Satan!
